Hybrid Body
The Hybrid Body Project is an active project, started in Fall 2024, focused on developing a wearable device designed to assist visually impaired individuals by providing real-time haptic feedback, helping them navigate their surroundings more safely and effectively. The project team is utilizing a combination of Time-of-Flight (TOF) sensors, computer vision, localization, and mapping technologies to create an assistive technology device that enhances spatial awareness. This innovative system aims to empower users by alerting them to nearby obstacles and improving overall mobility. We are also collaborating with multiple campus leaders and professors to ensure the device is minimally invasive to the user and addresses the diverse needs of the disabled community.
As a project lead, I am responsible for managing the project timeline, budget, and recruitment, as well as mentoring other team members. Many of our members are new to the engineering school or are more specialized in either hardware or software, so I have been teaching them the necessary integration skills they need to assist in this project. Additionally, it is my job keep the team motivated by fostering a collaborative and supportive environment, setting clear milestones, and celebrating the small wins of our project members to maintain momentum and enthusiasm as we continue developing the project.
